Thanks to SMS for pointing me toward this new Viva Voce song. I had just checked Barsuk’s site on Tuesday hoping to find a sample MP3 from the new album, but it looks like I was a day early. Viva Voce are playing our Hot Freaks! day party at SXSW and I didn’t want to come unprepared…

MP3: Viva Voce – Devotion
Based completely on “Devotion,” it sounds like the new album will be a bit more of a bubbling, seething composition. And in a very weird way, this sounds like a melodic pop compliment to the stoner rock my co-workers occasionally get me hooked on. I think it’s the rhythm section that’s giving off that vibe. At any rate, it sounds like this is just more stuff that’s going to translate well in the live setting.
