The Boy Least Likely To: “Every Goliath Has Its David”

February 9th, 2009 by Matt

A lot of people hear the Boy Least Likely To and think about how they’re children trapped in men’s bodies or some such nonsense. I think it’s something completely other than arrested development. The Boy Least Likely To seem like innocent, hard-working, lovers-not-fighters that approach everything in the world with wide eyes. Kind of like Johnny Depp’s portrayal of the oft-mocked director in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood. And yeah, it might be easier for the world to knock down a sand castle than to build it up, but where’s the beauty in that? The Boy Least Likely To are David to the world’s Goliath. Just ask the apparently Scooby Do-referencing chorus: “I’m not a coward / I’ve got puppy power / That I’m not afraid to use.”

Fantastic song.

Song via Pitchfork The Law of the Playground is out March 3rd.
