Asthmatic Kitty’s newest signee Fol Chen seems pretty wacky based entirely on this one song I’ve heard. But hey, this song’s pretty good so they’ve got my vote.

The beginning of this song makes me think that Fol Chen are almost certainly Cake fans — which is totally cool because I’m a big fan of Cake’s singles and a handful of their albums. In fact, this whole song is the sort of strange sexuality that Cake built a career on. “Cable TV” gets its name from the fact that the narrator is wildly excited to escape with you to a motel with cable tv. Best line: “I thought I knew what love what / Then I saw you dancing in your underwear…” Love it.
