I’ve never been big into Rodrigo y Gabriela. I enjoyed their album once or twice, watched about ten minutes of their set at Bonnaroo and that’s about it. However, their new live CD/DVD might just have made a believer out of me.
This version of “Tamacun,” though good, isn’t even one of my favorites on the album. Whatever they open the set with constantly blows my mind each time I hear it. Maybe it’s the novelty of listening to something outside my normal range, but I think Rod and Gab are really on to something. Their show sounds like a G4 show done on the streets of central America and looks like Jose Gonzalez gone Boris.
If you’ve got $10, I say go for it.
