Gentleman Auction House: “Book of Matches”

A good and trusted friend suggested that the Features/Wax Fang show this Saturday could be made into the most awesome bill ever by the opener: Gentleman Auction House. So I promptly hopped on the internet and discovered that they're completely and totally awesome. Now, here's the downer: I'm pretty sure my other good friend (and roommate) is having his Returned Home from Iraq party Saturday at our house and, as much as that's a great bill, I don't know that I can skip a "didn't get shot in the Marines" party for it... Maybe I can talk them into having it be a Halloween/Return party on Friday? MP3: Gentleman Auction House - The Book of Matches It's still kind of cliche to compare bands to the Arcade Fire, isn't it? Well, I imagine GAH took just the tiniest inspiration for the passion in "Book of Matches" from Funeral, and maybe even from Modest Mouse. But really, this one belongs more on the pop spectrum. In fact, the "We're shot like cannon balls..." section sounds more suited to Architecture in Helsinki or Bearsuit. But wherever their inspiration comes from, it's helping them make some great music.
