Shelton apparently does work with lightboxes, which is almost as cool as the music he makes.
After being glam-rocked senseless by Of Montreal, maybe my ears are just ready for their polar opposite. I don’t know. But whatever the reason, I was really struck by Matthew Shelton’s music when I heard it yesterday. Isaac from the also-awesome band Pomegranates (who I swear I’ll remember to post on one day!) emailed me to share his love for his fellow Cincinnatian. Well Isaac, love shared and love reciprocated. This guy’s awesome!

The first comparison that struck me was to Karl Blau’s new record, but that’s actually not really the best one I could give. Matthew Shelton is just about a dead-ringer for Bill Callahan, especially his newest Woke on a Whaleheart. In a perfect world, Shelton — who is without a label — would wind up on Drag City, but we’ll just have to settle for holding his songs close to our hearts for now.
