If I skipped It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for the VP debates, I might as well post on the one moment that stirred me.
I’ll do the grand reveal and say that I plan on voting for Obama. I’m a registered Republican, but I’ve got my reasons for voting the other way. But the reason I’m posting this video is that it was the one moment that broke through either candidate’s “politician” front. Biden gave me goosebumps; Palin insulted me and Biden with her quick snap back to talking points.
Strangely this deeply human moment came almost two minutes after I told my girlfriend that people forget that Biden lost a wife and child. But his use of this personal tragedy in the debate didn’t come across as a cheap use of it for political gain (like, unfortunately, Palin’s handicapped child or John McCain’s imprisonment often do). Rather it seemed like he was deeply offended by Palin’s insinuation that he’s out of touch with families in crisis. I don’t know enough about Biden to be a confessed fan of his politics, but today I’m a fan of him.
