Daniel Martin Moore: “It’s You”

October 1st, 2008 by Matt

Hell yeah! Kentucky’s Daniel Martin Moore is going to be releasing his new album Stray Age on Sub Pop. Now, I can’t claim to have been on the DMM train since he started out, but he’ll forever have my support for being both the first Kentucky solo artist on Sub Pop (to my knowledge) and for making a darn good record. Extra bonus points for scoring his Sub Pop record deal with an unsolicited demo he mailed to them.

What with Will Oldham first and now Daniel Martin Moore, people are likely to believe that this is the only kind of sound that comes out of Kentucky. But rather than get huffy and point out that we’ve got My Morning Jacket, the Apples in Stereo and Slint, I’ll just go with that since they’re both excellent. I’m on my first listen through DMM’s record and I’ve yet to skip any tracks — a rarity for me and this genre. I’ve been burned out on Iron and Wine and his ilk for a while, so it’s nice to have someone refresh my love.

In other news Phish have confirmed their 09 reunion — I mention this only because they’re sure to play Bonnaroo.
