Band of Horses @ Monolith 9.14.08

September 19th, 2008 by Matt

Every time I see Band of Horses I just want to grab them, My Morning Jacket, Fleet Foxes and maybe the Avett Brothers and have one giant modern day Last Waltz. Just think about it: My Morning Jacket are the main band and members of the other groups come out to join MMJ in playing hits from each of the bands’ catalogues. Sounds like heaven for the folk sect, right?

Well if that’s heaven, seeing Band of Horses by themselves is still some awesome Earth action. When I fell for them as “Horses” and saw them open for Iron and Wine shortly after they’d had to adapt their their name after threatened legal action, I never imagined they’d write such killer songs as “Is There a Ghost?” or “No One’s Gonna Love You.” Those are songs you could put in a time machine and they’d still hold up in either the 1970s or the 2070s.
