Cloud Cult @ Bluebird Theater 9.12.08

After a whirlwind travel adventure including an hour's drive, three takeoffs, weather delays on the runway in Kansas City and getting lost on the highways of Denver, I finally arrived at the kickoff party for Monolith. At first I was a bit confused when Cloud Cult took the stage. Only two of them were out there and it was a very low-key beginning. I asked Chris from GvB who was on stage and he said that, yeah, that was Cloud Cult. Minutes later they jumped into the band I expected them to be, a fiery version of a twee-pop Arcade Fire. Admittedly I wasn't paying rapt attention because I'd just been reunited with old friends, but they sounded really good. Also, the artists to the side of the band were a fun touch. Don't like watching the band? Watch the painters.
