If you were to make a list of the most fan-friendly bands, Wilco would have to be very near the top. While they’re not quite making house calls to their fanclub, they do routinely treat those who love them the most.
Earlier this year, Wilco did a five-night stint in Chicago where they played their entire catalogue — another treat for the fans in their hometown. So it should be no surprise that they used their headlining slot at Lollapalooza to do some unexpected things as a thank you to everyone who had supported them over the years.
And what a treat the show was. We got extended jams, a new song, a rarity (AM‘s “Just that Simple”) sung by John, and even some songs rarely seem to make it on the setlist (“Can’t Stand It”). The Nudie suits were a fantastic addition to their show, calling to mind the Flying Burrito Brothers and reminding me that they could be our generation’s The Band.
