Technically this is “Grizzly Bear” Dan and not “Department of Eagles” Dan, but whatever
Thanks to every website I read for pointing me to this new Department of Eagles track. DoE is Dan Rossen of Grizzly Bear and Fred Nicolaus making some songs of their own. So many of them, in fact, that they decided to release their second album, In Ear Park, on October 7. Here’s a song from it.

The obvious reference here is Grizzly Bear, as Dan’s mark on both bands as a musician and Chris Taylor’s mark as a producer leave big fingerprints. However, I’ve got to say that while they both feel like “desert” songs to me, this one is a little is a little … dustier. It feels like a contemporary score for one of those long scenes that Leone used in Once Upon a Time in the West. Anyway, it’s a fantastic, well-produced song that’s got me anxious to hear the full product.
