I saw the Whigs at our Hot Freaks! SXSW party, but had the misfortune of eating my breakfast burrito during their set. As such, I took no photos and was often more focused on the Texas cuisine in my stage than the band on the stage. Friday proved that that was my mistake.

Watching the Whigs made me realize that indie rock can be balls-out crazy. It was like Mudhoney had upped their melodies, downed the distortion and kept the energy. Whigs lead singer Parker Gispert rocked from foot to widely spaced foot like a a punk rocker with an anxiety disorder. Wax Fang and the Whigs was one of the best club shows I’ve been to in quite a while.
