From the sound of “One of Us,” Wire have come back to set all their imitators straight. Here’s the first (fantastic) peek at Wire’s new record Object 47.

I’ll admit that the intro to this song made me prepare for the worst. If Wire’s new record was a flop, it might somehow taint future enjoyment of Pink Flag. Consider my fears allayed, however, since “One of Us” is great. Though wildly different from “Three Girl Rhumba” or my personal favorite “Ex Lion Tamer,” “One of Us” hits the mark dead in the center — though it’s a completely different target. The song’s chorus (“One of us will live to rue the day we met each other”) is something that just begs to be shouted out in an arena. The chorus’ epic nature reminds me of the Muse DVD that just came out; fitting since the song sounds like Muse and Elbow collaborating.
