WFMU premiered this new Ted Leo track a little while ago. Thanks to the Friends of Tom forum for the MP3. You know, I used to tease my Georgia-raised dad for his occasional pronouncing the bathroom’s main feature as “turlet,” but I guess the joke’s on me now.
MP3: Ted Leo - The World is in the Turlet
I feel the same way about this song that I do about Green Day’s record as the Foxborough Hot Tubs. Not using the name Green Day freed them up to record without expectations and while a lot of the songs are toootally derivative (one sounds like “Tired of Waiting for You”), it’s a really fun record. Well Ted Leo and the Pharmacists let this one out to the public before their next album is ready. And with no worry about how this’ll affect the sales for an album, they could have some fun with that. The intro is totally something you’d hear on some of the most fun records (Sly and the Family Stone, Jimmy Cliff, Wilson Pickett). Oh, but yeah, Ted reminds us that we’re all going to die. So maybe it’s not all that fun…
Ted’s got a slew of tour dates coming up, so check ‘em out!
