I was going through some old files on my computer and stumbled upon more Belle and Sebastian covers. This one is from the ever-influential but far to under-covered Os Mutantes. The Bees did a great cover of this tune in the studio, but there’s something about hearing the crowd’s squeals of delight as their realization of what the song is hits that makes me think this might be the better version.

Could Belle and Sebastian give Of Montreal a run for their best cover band crown? Their covers are always nearly exact to the originals (which is both fantastic and not) and their song selection is absolutely great. But what’s more, they are clearly having so much fun performing them. I’ve heard they like to do a different cover each night of their tours, which is just incredible. Hopefully I’ll see them next time they come stateside.

Of course I couldn’t mention both Os Mutantes and Of Montreal in the same breath without linking to this video I took in 2006 of Of Montreal covering “Bat Macumba”, which was popularized by the Mutantes.
