Okay’s Huggable Dust is one of my favorite records of the year. It’ll finally be getting a physical release (hopefully on vinyl) on May 20th. To celebrate, here’s one of my favorite tracks from the album, complete with self-plagiarized text.
MP3: Okay - My
Okay reminds me of Michel Gondry’s film Science of Sleep. It’s very dreamy, bare-bones, confused and lovely. Also, I picture Marty Anderson composing the songs like how the main characters of Science of Sleep make their animations — by arranging what they have laying around into celebrations of life. Okay occasionally sounds like a Bedroom Beirut minus the Balkan (check “My”). It’s obvious that a lot of work has been put into making something sound simple, and I appreciate that. It’s incredibly intricate, but never sounds overly busy. I cannot stop this record once it’s started; it’s simply a great piece of music.
Got to play GTA4 for the first time today — may never look at life the same way again.
