When the Coup arrived in our fair city, we learned that they were drummerless. Apparently he was a no-show for the festival so they fired him. They thought about playing with no percussion, but we insisted that we’d find them a suitable replacement. After lots of phone calls to every drummer we could think of, the answer was clear: Hair Police’s Trevor Tremaine had to play drums for the Coup.
So in what was one of the more awesomely random concert moments of my life, I saw my friend and resident noise-rocker Trevor Tremaine climb the stairs and take a seat at the drums behind Boots Riley. Surreal is only one of many words to describe how it felt to all of us from WRFL.

And even though the guitarist had to start each song so that Trevor could get a feel for the drumming, the show still went really well. Boots seemed to be having a good time, Silk-E did a great job and the crowd was really into it. One punk rocker with a studded leather jacket even climbed on stage and jumped into the crowd.
