The other day at work I noticed that the display shelf above the “B” section was getting pretty predictable. The biggest new releases from the middle of that letter were the Black Keys, Black Lips, Black Mountain, Black Crowes and so on for about five in a row. Well add another one to the pile. The Black Angels’ Directions to See a Ghost is on its way.

The first and only time I saw the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was in the hot midday sun of New Orleans. It was great, but a little weird to see guys clad in the heaviest, blackest leather jackets you can find playing for an audience in as little clothing as you can legally get away with. That’s kind of what the Black Angels’ “Doves” is like. It’s sunshine and leather. These Austinites are drinking from the same pool of influences as Sons + Daughters, but they go in a different direction with it.
