Grizzly Bear: “While You Wait for the Others” (live on KCRW)

March 10th, 2008

Thanks to GvB for the MP3 of this tune. Like Chris, I’ve had my dreams haunted (well, improved) by this new Grizzly Bear tune they debuted on KCRW. I’ve got to say that there’s no better feeling than knowing one of your favorite records wasn’t a fluke. What better way for a band to allay your fears than by playing/recording a rocking song shortly afterwards (that makes two, counting “Blackcurrant Jam”).

MP3: Grizzly Bear - While You Wait for the Others (live on KCRW)
I think this song is practically the sister song of “Little Brother” off Grizzly Bear’s Yellow House (which you owe it to your ears to pick up if you haven’t already). “While You Wait for the Others” offers a drifting ride along on perfect harmonies and would be a great chaser for the crescendos in “Little Brother.” Judging solely on this track, it looks like their next album is going to be closely aligned to the styles that made them one of America’s best bands, but with just a slight lean further towards the pop stylings of the sun-drenched 60s.

And yeah, if you haven’t snagged your tickets for Cinci’s MusicNOW festival, I’d advise you to do that with as much urgency as the festival’s name implies. Andrew Bird and Grizzly Bear playing on the same day? Dirty Projectors playing the night before? Thank you, Cincinnati.
