Here’s a sweet cover the Flaming Lips did a while back that I rediscovered this past week and cannot stop listening to.

If I were making a Flaming Lips introductory CD for a friend, I’d absolutely have to include this John Lennon cover on there. The Lips infuse the classic song with everything I love about them: fuzzed-out guitar work that adds just a touch of noise to what’s otherwise a straight-forward pop song. Just listen to the crunch of the guitar in the pre-chorus ascending riff; it’s downright perfect. And yeah, Wayne’s not the greatest vocalist in the world, but he puts enough passion into his singing to more than win me over.
