This is how I imagine it would sound if Stephen Merritt took some mood altering pills and wound up on the Boy Least Likely To side of the emotional fence. The best thing about this song — and the thing that elevates it beyond a pointless pop song — is that if you pay close attention to the lyrics, they’re tinted with a little sadness. “Maybe all these moments are just in my head” gives way to the blissfully in denial lyric “but in my mind I’m having a pretty good time with you.” So it’s unsure if he’s planning out their life in five years by predicting that they get together and share “love, love, love” or if he’s saying they’ll continue the love they have then. Either way, it’s a great song.
