Elf Power: “Spiral Stairs”
February 9th, 2008 by Matt

Elf Power’s new record In a Cave is quite good — better than Back to the Web, their last, and much closer to their E6 classic When the Red King Comes. Here’s an early track from it to sink your teeth into this weekend.
MP3: Elf Power – Spiral Stairs
That old, familiar fuzz is back. “Spiral Stairs” has already become one of my favorite Elf Power songs because they play it simple and tight to the vest. For most of the song, the bass and guitar are fuzzed-out almost to the point where they seem to merge together. That acts like a sonic carpet for Andrew’s voice to deliver some of my favorite lyrics he’s ever done: “Oh little one, are you lost on the run? When the rain starts falling, I can’t hear you calling.”
