12 Days of Mixmas: Day 11
Michael Nau of Page France

If you haven’t guessed by now, Mixmas will be going beyond its normal 12 days (it’s always gone to 13 anyways). Here’s a nice Christmas Eve chill-out from Michael Nau of Page France. I loved his tunes since my Freshman year in college; now that I’m a Senior, it’s good to know that nothing’s changed. Page France is a great band full of great people. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank them for playing my birthday party and apologize for not remembering any of it. (Again, MP3 help is appreciated!)

MP3: Page France – Jesus

“RELAX” by Michael Nau of Page France
Yeah Yeah, I know it’s that time of year. Hustle…grab… check the bank account… etc etc. We each do what we do… let’s just take 30 minutes and mellow out together. May these tunes help remove the bustle from your brain… if only for a few.

McDonald & Giles : Birdman – The Reflection
What a great instrumental! This track really moves me. Members of the original King Crimson lineup, and then went on to make only one record as Mcdonald & Giles. This tune, full of its velvet textures and eventual climax, is a wonderful thing to get lost in.

MP3: The Upsetters : Tell Me Something Good
A feel good track. A beat from the ghetto, with sparse, soulful vocals, and the familiar production surprises and techniques of Perry recordings.

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band : I’m Glad
When a buddy of mine first showed me “Safe As Milk”, I was feeling it to a degree… then this tune came on, and as the harmonies rattled my brain, it all made sense. There’s just something magical about how this song works.

The Innocence Mission : Look For Me As You Go By
A beautiful song at the tail of a beautiful record. I kind of think of this song as “Birdman-The Reflection”, but with vocals.

Betty Marie Barnes : The First Song
I’m not sure what her story is. I believe she does
some singing for Saturday Looks Good To Me. Anyway, a buddy gave me a tape with this tune at the head of it. I’ve had a difficult time finding other songs. I think her voice is wonderful. It pushes the ceiling in the chorus of this, but feels calm while doing so.
