Ruby Isle: “Show Me How It Hurts”

December 10th, 2007 by Matt

After last week’s sweet cover of “Aly Walk With Me” by the Raveonettes, Ruby Isle have my full attention. They’re using that to their advantage by previewing 2008 EP “Miracles.” This is a preview track from what I think is going to be the first release on the revived Kindercore label.

I very easily could have labeled this as an Of Montreal track and passed it off as a demo for their new record. It’s got that starry-eyed pop-funk vibe that some of Of Montreal’s new stuff has had. Let’s not forget that a vital piece of Ruby Isle is Dan Geller, known for his work in I Am The World Trade Center and no stranger to dancey tracks.

The Sixty One seems like a pretty cool music site. It’s sort of like a musical Digg. You “bump” songs that you like. It costs you points, but you make points if more people bump that song later. The idea is that it’ll help the good songs rise to the top, but it sounds more like record label A&R meets the stock market. Could be a fun way to find new music, though.
