The Light Footwork: “Rebellion Time”

November 19th, 2007 by Matt

It’s been a long time since we heard from the Light Footwork. Now they’re releasing a split with with Tereu, Tereu. It features three new Light Footwork tracks: an updated version of “Melville,” as well as the as-yet-unheard “Early Worm” and “Rebellion Time.” I’ve chosen to highlight “Rebellion Time,” as it’s a really sweet song that reminds me of how I felt when first hearing their 2005 record One State, Two State (really happy).

MP3: The Light Footwork – Rebellion Time
“Rebellion Time” is music to explore a city to. Its trumpet bridges make me want to jump in a car and drive great stretches of land with the windows down (see also: Sufjan’s “Chicago” and Beulah’s “Emma Blowgun’s Last Stand”) The song’s Bishop Allen-meets-Beulah sound looks perfect on paper and sounds perfect to my ears. Rather than their normal back-and-forth vocals, Jay and Becca sing this one together; Jay takes the lead, but I’ve got to say that I’m really enjoying the doubled vocals.
