OK, I lied. This is the other song that’s been rocking my week. This live version isn’t so great without the phase/echo weirdness of the studio version, but the strength of the song is still there.
The past three days have included little outside of paper writing and sleeping for me. Fun, I know. However, I have grown inexplicably drawn to the song “Swamp” by the Talking Heads. I’ve always enjoyed it, but this week has seen a huge spike in its plays. I usually only stop long enough to switch to “Girlfriend is Better” for a minute or two.
Oh man, this is so good it’s ridiculous. Ruby Isle have started a project of covering the #1 song on Elbo.ws each week. Last go around it was Hello Blue Roses, now it’s “Aly, Walk With Me” by the Raveonettes. But where the original was a slow, sad tune, Ruby Isle’s version is pure dancefloor gold. They sped it up, changed the key and added a solo. Thank God Kindercore is back, and thanks Ruby Isle for this awesome cover.

Ruby Isle also make some sweet music of their own. Check it out on their Myspace
I know it’s not even December yet, but that hasn’t stopped Casper and the Cookies from posting a new Christmas song for your enjoyment! The gang are hard at work on their new album which should be due out in early ’08 on Happy Happy Birthday to Me records.
I just got the new Raveonettes record Lust Lust Lust and feel compelled to share my love. The record’s like some crazy combination of Teenage Fanclub and My Bloody Valentine covering 50s beat-pop groups. It’s as weird and appealing as it sounds.

No it’s not some twisted tribute to the theme from Twin Peaks. “Aly, Walk With Me” is a sexy slow number that drifts to your ears like Clinic on downers.
So while I’m neck-deep in the seven papers and one exam I have this week, it’s nice to know that there are still wonderful things out there. Take, for example, this cover of JoJo’s “Too Little Too Late” by Dan Rossen of Grizzly Bear. I’m not sure that I’ve heard the original, but this cover is quite nice.
