MP3: Flaming Lips – The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song
Keeping up the trend of songs that are better live than on record, here’s the Flaming Lips’ contribution to the pile. I won’t lie, I didn’t like this song at first. It’s a nice pop song, but it even pokes fun at its intentional weirdness with the closing “I give up. I didn’t make it all the way through” line. But it grew on me and I eventually liked it a little. Then came Bonnaroo. Seeing this song live is really the only way to appreciate it fully. Wayne spent about two minutes prepping us with instructions and practice chants before shooting out the real deal. It’s a fist-pumping song, a silly song and one that’ll make you think if you stop to listen. Now that’s a rarity.
