Of Montreal: “Mingusings”
October 23rd, 2007 by Matt

Big thanks to NYC Taper for recording this Of Montreal show at the Roseland in NYC. They played a few new songs (as they generally do… Kevin usually has the next album written by the time the last hits stores) and “Mingusings” is one of the best.
MP3: Of Montreal – Mingusings (new; live)
I really do have the utmost respect for Kevin Barnes. In my mind, he just might be the best musician going today. The guy’s a machine, but a weird one. You see, this machine never makes the same thing twice. Take “Mingusings” for example. Yeah, it sounds a bit like Hissing Fauna… to the point where it wouldn’t be too out of place on the record, but it jumps stylistically as much as it can within its dancey confines: there’s some R&B vocal harmonies in the chorus (thank BP for those), the sexy strut to the verses , and some of the most rawking guitar Of Montreal have ever laid down. It’s weird and strange and I love every second of it.
If you want the full thing or just the other new ones, NYC Taper has the whole show in FLAC. Or if you’re a lo-fi kinda guy (or girl!), one of the kind E6 Townhallers uploaded it here in MP3 format.
