Songs for America’s Most Smartest Model

October 8th, 2007

So I’m sitting here at a friend’s house enjoying one of the best reality tv shows I’ve ever seen. America’s Most Smartest Model throws a dozen or so models in a house and comes up with various academic hoops for them to jump through. My personal favorite is the number pad locks on the bathroom and refrigerator doors with quiz questions above them. Want to pee or eat? Better know the year Columbus discovered America.

In the first episode, the contestants went through a fashion-based spelling bee that got exponentially harder (starting with ‘blue’ and ending with ‘Dionysian’). From there they got the walk-and-chew-gum challenge of doing the catwalk while naming as many items from a category that they could. My favorite was Mandy Lynn’s repetition of the only four round things she could think of: “Balls. Cherries. Balloons. Tires.”

And there’s always the spectacular hosting by Ben Stein, who lays the sarcasm on thick. I loved the Ferris Bueller-channeling “Anyone? Anyone?” he gave after a brainy reference that was met with blank faces. Oh. And apparently Bill Nye guests on an upcoming episode, so that’s always a win.

Songs for America’s Most Smartest Model

MP3: Kraftwerk - The Model
MP3: The Lucksmiths - Young And Dumb (live on KEXP)
MP3: Lupe Fiasco - Dumb it Down (link)
MP3: Fishboy - Proper Name Spelling Bee
MP3: Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant (live)
MP3: Pink Nasty - Pass The Test

I would have really liked to have used The Kinks’ “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” but didn’t have an MP3. Oh well.
