Bishop Allen: “You Aint No Picasso”

Someone emailed me the other day asking me to repost the song from which I stole the title of this here web site. Here it is in all its demoed glory.

MP3: Bishop Allen – You Ain’t No Picasso
This was recorded pre-Charm School and it really shows. The band — and they’ll likely admit this — really had very little idea how to get the ideas to translate from their heads into the physical world, but they made up for the lack of experience with lots and lots of great ideas. This song in particular is a little bit nonsense, and a lot centers upon the office-place — a “Middle Management” precursor. It’s cute, catchy and gives a great peek into where a lot of Bishop Allen’s trademark sounds come from (most notably Christian’s guitar textures).
