Whew. Lemme tell you, Jay Reatard’s live show is very little like the lo-fi pop that I praised yesterday. I mean, it’s still great, but a whole different kind of great. Like, Ramones great.

I don’t know how long Jay Reatard played, but it felt like the neighborhood of half an hour. But as a testament to the speed at which they ripped through their set, I know they crammed in at least ten songs. Part of it was the machine-gun tempo, but it was mostly that there was never more than a second’s pause — long enough for Jay to shout out a song title — before the band kicked off the next tune.
