I didn’t get a chance to listen to Caribou’s Andorra until this past week, and I’m absolutely kicking myself over it. It’s fantastic, and just another reason I really need to keep track of the home runs Merge has hit this year. I’ve lost count.

“Melody Day” is like Elliott Smith taking LSD in a forest. I don’t know what I mean by that, exactly, other than it sounds like what it must feel like to listen to From a Basement on the Hill on psychedelic drugs (I’m sure someone can prove/disprove that). But even more than the perfect beauty to the strained vocals, is the backing instrumentation — the crashing, trotting drums and the occasional flute flourishes.
