Ted Leo @ Lollapalooza 7.3.07

I haven’t seen Ted Leo perform in a while; probably since last year’s Pitchfork. His Lollapalooza performance was nice — not the best I’ve seen, but more on that later — but what it mostly did was make me like his new songs more. I’m not a huge fan of Living with the Living, but Ted’s passion was enough to win me over.

Ted later explained in a group interview that with festivals, he’s more concerned with playing well than being energetic and wild. Why? Well he figures you’re more likely to win over that person in the back or walking by if you sound good, than if you’re bleeding, and rolling around on the floor but playing guitar poorly. I don’t know if I should credit it to that or not, but his festival shows never quite live up to his smaller venue shows (barring last year’s Pitchfork show). Still, a really fun show.
