The Brunettes: “Small Town Crew”

I fell hard for the Brunettes about two years ago. I mean hard. I thought they hung the moon. And while I haven’t heard all of their new album Structure & Cosmetics yet, this looks like a great start.

MP3: The Brunettes – Small Town Crew
Leading in with a sound near to indie underdog kings Sambassadeur, male/female duo the Brunettes have crafted a slow, drifting earworm. What feels weird about this is that unlike songs on Mars Loves Venus, there’s no real hook or anything that makes you stay. But you’ll stay. With a voice as soft and beautiful as this one (think the Pipettes dropping the grrrl power 50s act and being sweet), you’ll be pressing your headphones into your ears, trying to milk every last sound from them.
