I’m supremely excited for the new Jens Lekman album, Night Falls Over Kortedala. He absolutely wowed me at Pitchfork last year with “A Postcard to Nina,” and now he’s doing it again with “Friday Night at the Drive-In Bingo.”

Jens Lekman is hands-down one of the most charming songwriters of today. His lyrics are heartwarming, friendly and often terribly witty: “My heart is beating, beating like Ringo / As I pull in to the drive-in bingo” On this track, Jens is all there in every way we’ve come to love him: great 50s-esque hook, cute lyrics and his wonderful voice. Also, there’s a great little section where the song speeds up as Jens plots his life as a farmer. I haven’t said it in a while, but 2007 has been my favorite year for music in a long while (2004 probably) and Jens Lekman’s new album looks to be just another reason why.
