Stephen Malkmus is cool. He’s right up there in the list of the cool with Miles Davis and James Brown, but it’s a different kind of vibe. Malkmus is cool because he couldn’t care less about it. And as such, it was a great surprise that he decided to treat us to tons of Pavement songs (most pleasingly “Heaven is a Truck” and “Spit on a Stranger”) and a guest appearance by Louisville’s and own Bob Nastanovich. The fact that no bass amp was set up kept most of us from craning our necks for Mark Ibold, but it was a great enough performance with two.
