Mastodon @ Pitchfork 7.14.07

July 17th, 2007

Mastodon brought back something that I hadn’t been a part of since Death From Above 1979 played the 2005 Intonation/Pitchfork fest: insanity.

You go into a show with a band like Mastodon with certain expectations. Then you quietly put those down as everyone around you proceeds to lose their minds. There was a mosh pit (not to Warped Tour levels, but that’s a big deal for a laid back festival like this) that stirred up so much dust that many of those not involved had to cover their mouths and eyes. It was wild and — though musically not the first thing I’m going to reach for on any given day — a great time.
