Miracle Fortress: “Have You Seen In Your Dreams?”

May 24th, 2007

After having spent the past two months with Miracle Fortress’ Five Roses, the new solo album by Think About Life’s Graham Van Pelt, I can say that it’s one of my favorites to come out so far this year.

I think if the Animal Collective/Panda Bear set ever picks up on Miracle Fortress, this record could blow up. The album, especially “Have You Seen…” , is an excellent example of how a great song structure really gives you the freedom to go wild. Because the actual song is so tight and well structured, Graham’s free to add flavor with extended drum fills, synth and just a little bit of guitar noodling.

Nicholas from the Perry Bible Fellowship has a book of PBF stuff coming out soon. Preorder it here. I also wanted to point out that Nicholas was one of the first interviews I ever did for YANP, barely beating out David Barnes and Carson Ellis. Strange that I started interviewing artists on a music blog.

Daytrotter this week is Phosphorescent. Kinda makes up for the time their van broke in Louisville and we had to cancel their Lexington show at the last moment. Also, for the (pleasantly) surprising amount of people buying the Voxtrot album at my work today, they also did Daytrotter.

Frank posted quite possibly the best Chromewaves post ever while on vacation. I take that back: best post on any blog ever.
