I promised someone I would post this song again a long time ago and never seemed to remember to do it. I’m not quite sure why. This is probably one of my favorite covers in my sizable covers playlist.

I’ve always felt that if “Strange Powers” had been recorded in a different period of the Magnetic Fields’ life, it could have been a radio hit. Of course that’s the optimist in me. Still, this Shins cover takes the mainly-keyboard original and adds some jangly electric guitar and staccatos up the keys’ part to turn a pop classic upside-down.
