The Polyphonic Spree: “Running Away”

May 21st, 2007 by Matt

“Running Away” was posted over at Salon a little bit ago, so I’m assuming it’s OK to toss up. I’ve got to say that over the past little while, this has quickly become one of my favorite songs of 2007.

MP3: The Polyphonic Spree – Running Away
The most appealing thing about the Polyphonic Spree has always been that their music is a celebration. Even when it’s not happy (because it’s not always), there’s still the underlying message of the persistance of life. Perfect example: “Running Away,” the Spree’s new single. With the mounting crash of drums and cymbals and the flourish of a flute, “Running Away” launches into one of the group’s strongest songs yet. It’s a stirring composition that makes the leap from ‘inspired’ to ‘inspiring.’

The Fragile Army is out June 19. Get more info at The Spree’s web site.
