Acid House Kings: “Do What You Wanna Do”

May 11th, 2007

I’ve been looking for a reason to post on Acid House Kings again. They’re an amazing soundtrack to a summer’s day, and I’d gladly spend every day talking about them to anyone who’d listen. But today is special, because I realized I finally have a reason to discuss them: the Labrador 100 release. I got this a while ago, but forgot to expound on its glory. It’s an absolute gem of indie-pop from Swedish label Labrador. This is something that pop nerds like me and Matt Skatterbrain will count as the bible when we’re in our thirties.

The best part about the compilation is that each of the 100 songs has a little bit of commentary in the accompanying book by either a band member or one of the five founding guys behind Labrador. Here are two samples.

“Appearing on the very first Labradore release, this band has been around for quite a while. And the thing is, when my sister heard about me including them on a split single in 1998, she asked me , in a rather surprised voice, “So, they are still around?” Still, AHK are one of those bands that manage to deliver even lovelier songs with eevery record theey release. This one is one of my favourites!” - Bengt

“I wrote the ‘They say you rmiddle name is trouble, but I know it’s Caroline’ part on a piano at my mother-in-law’s. I instantly knew it was going to be a great song for the Acid House Kings. If it had been three seconds shorter, it could have been a strong contender for the Eurovision Song Congest. It swings, too. -Niklas
