There’s something charming about Bishop Allen songs. From “Little Black Ache” to “Central Booking” and “Click Click Click,” their protagonists always seem to walk happily through lonliness and confusion, lost but loving it. And that’s what “Rain” is all about. Throughout the song, Justin keeps adding to the misfortune of being caught by the accumulating showers, but if he minds, he’s not letting on. “If it’s ever going to get any better / It’s got to get worse for a day.”
