I had to do a little research before I was willing to accept these as real Eagle*Seagull songs. They’re a radical departure from the plunking piano pop of their first album, and I think those of you who remember it might agree. That said, when I found out that they’ve got a few of these streaming on their myspace, I was willing to accept that they had just made a huge leap; and though their sound might have changed, the quality of the songs is still top notch. Start with “The Boy…” or “You’re the Reason…”
Note: these are live recordings, but they are by a great margin the best live recordings I’ve ever heard.
MP3: Eagle*Seagull – You’re The Reason Why I’m Afraid To Die
MP3: Eagle*Seagull – The Boy With A Serpent In His Heart
MP3: Eagle*Seagull – I Have Hated People
MP3: Eagle*Seagull – 20,000 Light Years
Sounds like a potentially wonderful album. Also, I’d like to note that with song titles like “You’re the Reason Why I’m Afraid to Die,” Eagle*Seagull are just about as good at naming songs as Beulah and Mclusky. Here’s another well-named one — a studio track this time.
MP3: Eagle*Seagull – Your Beauty is a Knife I Turn On My Throat
