After spending an hour catching a cab in downtown Austin late Thursday night, I made it back in time to catch just a little sleep before the start of Hot Freaks. I was a little late, but I think St. Vincent is an excellent way to start any day.
Annie Clark is a brilliantly sharp multi-instrumentalist who moonlights as guitar player for the Polyphonic Spree. But when she’s performing as St. Vincent, there’s a kind of ferocity and wisdom that seem surprising when coming from someone so young.
Unfortunately the day was still beginning, so those present for Annie’s captivating performance numbered in the dozens. Still, it was an absolute treat to get to finally see her live.
