SXSW: David Vandervelde @ The Mohawk
March 20th, 2007 by Matt

The Mohawk has two stages: an oudoor one on a big raised stage and an indoor one that’s adjacent to the bar. David Vandervelde played indoors, to the most tightly packed crowd I saw while in Austin. It’s one thing to hear internet buzz, but it’s really wild to see it manifested in physical form. Interesting, but it also means that I had to watch him from the other side of the bar in a different room.

I didn’t know enough about Vandervelde to know which songs he played, but I was probably the only one. The crowd seemed pretty familiar with his new album and were appreciative to say the least. I wish I had had time to get there early for a good spot and stay through the whole set, but such is the nature of SXSW.
