Brown Recluse Sings: “Calm Before the Storm”

February 18th, 2007 by Matt

It’s that time folks. After my site was down for two days, I wasn’t able to do my weekly rant about how 2007 is the best musical year ever. I received Brown Recluse Sings’s new EP, Black Sunday, in the mail (and gasped out of surprise and excitement) and have been playing it ever since.

MP3: Brown Recluse Sings – The Calm Before The Storm
There are all kinds of songs on Black Sunday. Some sound like Page France, others like Belle and Sebastian. But “The Calm Before the Storm?” It sounds like Brown Recluse Sings. You could compare it to Pants Yell! in that it’s it’s a simple pop structure that gets its real impact from a great melody and delightful production, but it’s still Brown Recluse. And really, when you’ve got an EP this good, why would you need to be anything but yourself?
