The next great leak album of 2007 has arrived! I’ve been a fan of Great Lake Swimmers for a while now, but I was caught off guard by this one: not only did I not know they’d signed to Nettwerk and readied a new album, but I had no idea it would be so good!

While most of the new album sounds like Sufjan Stevens orchestrating a Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy song, “I am Part of a Large Family” comes across more as late-80s R.E.M. Dekker’s voice is particularly emotive on this tune, possibly because it’s a song about family. He never outright says it, for no good songwriters ever have to, but it’s a song that glorifies the strength that family provies. And what’s more, this song is another one of those rare examples where the lyric that spells out the whole song, also happens to be the most catchy: “I am part of a large family, and it’s enough for me.”
