Sea Wolf! It’s been almost exactly a year since I first posted on Sea Wolf, and they’ve used the time to sign to Dangerbird and record an EP and album. Here’s two cuts from what could wind up being my favorite 2007 debut.

With “Middle Distance Runner,” it’s all about reading between the lines. It’s a loving song, but one about being worn down and beaten. In a way, it’s almost a a self-defeating and selfish song. Yes, he’s going to run to her, but not if it’s far — after all, he’s just a middle distance runner. On times like these, Church tells her: “you’ll have to run to me tonight, tonight I will love you forever. But I’ll only ever be a middle distance runner.”
