The Broken West: “Down in the Valley”

January 17th, 2007

Yesterday I finally got around to listening to that Broken West CD that’s been laying on my desk. And you know what? I dig it thoroughly.

MP3: The Broken West - Down in the Valley
I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On comes off like Spoon’s Kill the Moonlight coupled together with The Essex Green’s Cannibal Sea. And the peak of the album, is the glorious pop melody that forms the heart of “Down in the Valley.” It’s a blues-tinted work that still manages to feel almost like a bunch of southern boys covering a lost Kinks classic. But no matter your reference point, you’ll be united under the banner of this clapping, stomping, melodic chorus and everything that surrounds it.

I just booked my flight and hotel for SXSW! I’m pretty excited, and I’m sure I’ll only get more so as time rolls on.
